Kwadelo village gets major water boost

DODOMA: VILLAGE in Kondoa District can now breathe a sigh of relief after years of struggling to access clean and safe water, following the launch of a major water supply project in the area.

The project, valued at 292m/-, was officially inaugurated on June 26, 2025, by the Minister for Livestock and Fisheries and Member of Parliament for Kondoa Constituency, Dr Ashatu Kijaji.

It was funded by Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) and implemented in partnership with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) and the non-governmental organisation AFRICAI.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, Dr Kijaji hailed the project as a significant milestone in resolving the village’s long-standing water crisis, which has disproportionately affected women and children forced to travel long distances in search of water.

“I commend President Samia Suluhu Hassan for fostering strong partnerships between the government and the private sector. This collaboration has made today’s achievement possible and will benefit more than 14,000 people,” she said.

She also thanked Serengeti Breweries for their financial support, describing it as a reflection of the sixth phase government’s commitment to easing the daily burdens faced by communities especially women.

Dr Kijaji urged residents to safeguard the infrastructure, including the water sources, to ensure sustainability for future generations.

SBL Managing Director, Dr Obinna Anyalebechi noted that, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company has supported water projects that have reached over two million people across Tanzania.

He praised the local community for its cooperation during the implementation of the Kwadelo project.

“Access to clean water is key to driving sustainable development. Let us work together to protect this vital resource because water is life,” he said.

Several residents expressed their gratitude, saying the project would significantly ease the daily struggle of collecting water and improve health and hygiene in the village.

They also pledged to protect the infrastructure for the benefit of the entire community.

The new project includes 11 water points, a borehole, and storage tanks with a total capacity of 120,000 litres.

With its completion, water access in Kondoa District now stands at 70 per cent of the district’s 85 per cent target.
