ZANZIBAR: FIVE hundred youths in Zanzibar are set to benefit from a week-long training programme as part of the 2024 Kizimkazi Festival.
The festival, which kicked off last Saturday, offers a comprehensive curriculum encompassing agriculture, livestock, fishing, tourism, entrepreneurship and art.
This week’s festivities include special prayers on Friday for President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the festival’s founder, led by Tanzania’s Mufti, Abubakar Zuber Ali.
Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Mwinyi is set to inaugurate the festival on Sunday.
At a press conference held at Kizimkazi, Mr Mahfoudh Said Omar, Chairman of the festival organising committee said that Tanzania’s Mufti, Abubakar Zuber Ali, will lead the prayers.
Attendees are encouraged to come in large numbers, as leaders from both Zanzibar and the mainland will also participate in various events throughout the festival.

Mr Omar revealed the main sponsors for this year as TTCL, NBC Bank, Tigo/Zantel, TIB, CRDB Bank, TTB, Zanzibar Tourism Commission, NMB Bank, Assas Company, PBZ Bank, Deep Sea Fishing Authority (DSFA), Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF) and NSSF.
Representatives from these sponsors expressed their support, noting that the festival’s projects extend beyond entertainment and offer significant benefits to the community.
Additional activities throughout the festival include football and netball matches, a sports bonanza, Taarab music performances (both traditional and contemporary), dhow and bicycle races, Zenji and Bongo Flava music, traditional Tanzanian foods and dances, jogging and medical check-ups, and promotions of clean energy.
