King Kiki: ‘Kitambaa Cheupe’ hitmaker, passes away

Dar es Salaam: Veteran dance musician Boniface Kikumbi Mwanza Mpango, popularly known as “King Kiki,” passed away last night at the Muhimbili National Hospital, in Dar es Salaam, where he had been admitted.

King Kiki will be remembered for his hit song ‘Kitambaa Cheupe’.

TBC Online reports that King Kiki lost battle Friday morning after long illness.

The funeral is at the late artist’s home located at Azizi Ali, Temeke. Burial arrangements are yet to be communicated.

Kiki first arrived in Tanzania in 1971 with the Orchestre Forvette Band from DR Congo, which was led by renowned solo guitarist Freddy Ndala Kasheba.

Other bands he worked with were Orchestre Maquis du Zaire, Orchestre Safari Sound, Orchestre Double O, Orchestre Sambuluma, Orchestre La Capitale and Wazee Sugu.

His ‘Kitambaa Cheupe’ hit song earned him and his band many opportunities including entertaining in big national events.
