Kemebos student dies in road accident

KAGERA: A FORM Five student at Kemebos Secondary School died on the spot when a school bus he was travelling in overturned on today morning.
Muleba District Commissioner (DC) Dr Abel Nyamahanga named the deceased as Frank Matage (17), noting that the accident happened at around 2 a.m. at Kiziramuyaga village after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp corner.
“The ill-fated school bus with registration number T770 DSQ property of Kemebos Secondary School was carrying about 35 students who were heading to Geita Region for Easter holidays.
One student died instantly while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to Kaigara Hospital in Muleba District before being referred to Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment,” he said.
Responding to the accident, Kagera Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Blasius Chatanda told reporters that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested and now in their custody.
He named the driver as Nelson Rwangaza (43), adding that he will be charged for reckless driving and causing the death of then student.
The body of the deceased has been collected by the parents and relatives for burial.
In a related development, Secretary of the Bukoba Regional Referral hospital (BRRH), Mr Asheri Mtango said three patients including a student, a matron and an assistant bus attendant from Kemebos Secondary School were currently admitted at the institution in stable condition.
