Kairuki calls on data institutions to register to PDPC before April 8

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Angellah Kairuki, has called on all public and private institutions that collect or process personal data to ensure they are registered with the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) before April 8 this year.

Speaking at the closing of a training program for Data Protection Officers, Minister Kairuki said the government has granted an additional three-month grace period from January 8, 2026 to April 8, 2026, to provide a final opportunity for institutions that have not yet complied with the requirements of the Personal Data Protection Act to register voluntarily.

She further directed the Personal Data Protection Commission to immediately begin preparations for compliance audits, which will officially commence once the grace period ends. The audits will cover institutions, companies, and individuals involved in the collection, storage, or processing of personal data.
