Kagera to host UDSM 13bn/- business school campus
KAGERA: KAGERA Region is set to host University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) business school campus thanks to 13.1bn/- World Bank funding under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project.
The UDSM, HEET Deputy Coordinator, Dr Liberato Haule said during a recently site visit in Kagera that the initiative is set to create over 130 jobs for local youth.
“This is a major economic milestone for the residents of Kagera.
The local community is benefiting from both direct and indirect employment opportunities, enabling many previously unemployed youths to find work on-site,” said Dr Haule.

The project completion is November 2025. He highlighted that the university is bringing higher education services closer to communities that have historically lacked access.
The Kagera campus will emphasise business studies and will be integrated into the University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS).
It will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, lecture halls, workshops, student dormitories and faculty offices.
Kagera’s Karabagaine Ward Councillor Mr Samuel Makwabe said that the project not only creates employment opportunities but also opens markets for local products and improves communication by connecting communities with vehicle-accessible roads.
“The establishment of this university is a blessing and we are already experiencing benefits, including improved road access,” Mr Makwabe said.
The campus is built at the ward.
A food vendor at the area, Ms Levina Byarugaba, said she has already benefited from the project by seeing her income increasing from 7,000/- to over 18,000/- per day.
UDSM’s HEET Infrastructure Development expert Dr Paul Ndumbaro said that the initial phase will include four classrooms, each accommodating 70 students, two lecture rooms for 270 students each, a computer lab for 72, seminar rooms for 20 and over 30 offices, as well as a cafeteria and student dormitories.
Resident Engineer Mr Leonaro Mwangoka reported that construction is currently at 10 per cent completion and is on schedule.
“We are in the substructure stage and are confident we will complete the project on time without delays,” Mr Mwangoka assured.
