Kagera RAS impressed with big turnout of pupils on first day
KAGERA: KAGERA Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Dr Toba Nguvila has expressed satisfaction over the big number of pupils and students who turned out on the first day when schools reopened on Monday across the country for the academic year 2024.
Equally, he urged parents and guardians to ensure that no child is left behind, taking into consideration that the sixth phase government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has provided free education to all children in the country.
He made the remarks yesterday when he made a spot visit at several primary and secondary schools in Bukoba Municipality.
“My appeal to all parents and guardians is to take advantage of the conducive environment provided by the sixth phase government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan by providing free education to all children in the country. The government has allocated a big budget for education sector while also constructing decent classrooms,” he said.
While at Rumuli primary school, he encouraged pupils to study hard for them to become future leaders like District Commissioners (DCs), District Executive Directors (DED) and other senior positions.
“The sky is the limit. We bank on you (young generation) to become good and faithful future leaders when we retire,” he said.
Dr Nguvila has also directed head teachers and headmasters/head mistresses in the region where the construction of classrooms had reached 70 per cent to register pupils eligible for preschool, Standard One and Form One.
A report indicated a total of 91,542 pupils of school-going age (under five years) are expected to be registered for Nursery school in the eight councils in this academic year.
Also, about 89,600 pupils aged five years and above are expected to be enrolled for Standard One, where 45,208 are girls and 44,392 being boys.
“Parents are encouraged to ensure that no child of school-going age is left behind because President Samia Suluhu Hassan has provided free education to all children in the country,” Dr Nguvila said.
