DAR ES SALAAM: Former Registrar of Political Parties, Judge John Tendwa, has passed away in Dar es Salaam.
The passing of Justice Tendwa news was confirmed on Tuesday by the presiding Registrar of Political Parties, Judge Francis Mutungi promising to shared detailed information later.
Judge Tendwa was a central figure in Tanzania’s political transition during the early years of the multi-party system, which was formally reintroduced in 1992.
He succeeded the first Registrar, George Liundi, in 2001, served in the role for 12 years until 2013.

His tenure marked a critical period in shaping the country’s multi-party democracy, overseeing the registration and regulation of political parties amid evolving political dynamics.
He was succeeded in 2013 by the current Registrar, Judge Francis Mutungi, who was appointed by former President Jakaya Kikwete.
