Junior golfer Mwakawago hits career albatross
DAR ES SALAAM: IT was all but smiles as junior golfer Rodgers Daudi made his first albatross feat at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) in Dar es Saam on Saturday.
In golf, an albatross is a term that most golfers know but few will ever have the fortune to make.
This scoring term, which is also known as a double eagle, represents three strokes under par on a single hole and is extremely difficult to achieve.
But it was not the case for Daudi who attained the feat during a practice round, ready for the first-ever Lina PG Tours Pro-Am competition to be held later this month at TPC Moshi Club.
The 15-year-old player made it at the 432-meter par-5-hole no. 8 on Saturday morning.
“I had a nice tee shot, hit Cobra drive, then decided to go with 5-iron at the second shot as with about 192 metres left, I managed to sink into a hole.
“I am thrilled, my feelings were unreal and I came to find out that at the time my albatross had happened, it was the same place where my sister Daisylin was born which makes it even special,” he explained.
The handicap 22 golfer who wishes to go and play golf in college while studying engineering abroad is hopeful one day he can make it into professional ranks.
“I Thank my uncle Hassan and Fadhil Nkya, my mother Yasmin, grandfather Said Nkya, my dad and everyone out there, they have done wonders for me,” he stressed.
Daudi added that golf is his passion and life desire as he extended appreciation to Dar golfer David Jonsen who played with him and helped him achieve this goal.
“I also want to compliment my brothers Kiye Jr and Mikoh who play with me every day, they want me to pull up my game, we challenge each other every day with no envy and try to make each other better,” he said.
