TANZANIA: The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) has successfully begun electricity generation trials after connections with the transmission lines of Chalinze Substation.
According to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) today, about 400 kilowatt of electricity has been transported from the substation to JNHPP.
Earlier in December, 2023, the authority announced the commencement of the exercise saying that it would take them 10 days to complete it before the trial begins.
TANESCO further noted that during the exercise, there will be power outage in some areas as a result of switch offs in the work procedures.
Chalinze Substation is a 400kV boost located in Chalinze in Coastal region, Tanzania.
The project’s construction is expected to begin in 2034 and commissioning in 2035.
The designed voltage level of the substation is 400/220kV and the operating voltage level is 400/220kV.
