DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Tanzania secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday, thanks to an early second-minute bullet from Hassan Kapalata.
The match was decided by a brilliant first-half goal that left Tanzania Prisons with no chance of a comeback.
Kapalata’s strike not only delivered the three points but also propelled JKT Tanzania to ninth place in the standings, with 13 points from 10 matches. In contrast, Tanzania Prisons languish in 12th place, with 10 points from 11 matches.
The decisive goal came from a well-executed counterattack, capitalising on two key factors: a defensive error and a high pressing game from JKT Tanzania.
The move began when Najim Magulu intercepted a Tanzania Prisons clearance attempt.
Magulu swiftly crossed the ball into the box, where it found Edward Songo. Songo, cool and composed, controlled the ball with precision before laying it off for Kapalata. With his eyes already set on goal, Kapalata unleashed a powerful shot that deflected off a defender, sending the ball into the back of the net.
The early strike was enough to seal the win, as JKT Tanzania’s defence held firm throughout the match, thwarting any attempts from their opponents. The goal ignited celebrations among JKT fans, which filled the stadium with songs, drums and chants, offering their unwavering support and creating an electrifying atmosphere.
With the victory, JKT Tanzania’s place in the league is solidified and they continue to build momentum as they aim for a higher position in the standings.
In another development, the match between Tabora United and Singida Black Stars at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora was postponed due to heavy rainfall, which rendered the pitch unplayable.

The decision to postpone the match was confirmed by venue manager Said Mkai, who referred to the league regulations specifically rules 17:39 and 40 stating that if weather conditions make the pitch unsuitable for play, the referee has the authority to postpone the match. A new date and time will be announced accordingly.
“The match has been postponed due to heavy rain,” Mkai explained. “We involved both teams and the referee to inspect the venue and it was clear that the pitch is not in a condition to host the match. Following this, the TPLB will announce the rescheduled date and time for the match.”
Fans and stakeholders will be awaiting the official announcement from the Tanzanian Premier League Board (TPLB) regarding the new date and time for the fixture.
