JKT Tanzania triumph over Kagera Sugar

DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Tanzania secured a 2-0 victory over Kagera Sugar at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday. The breakthrough came in the 40th minute when JKT’s Edward Songo converted a penalty following a foul by Kagera Sugar’s Ramadhani Chalamanda on Shiza Kichuya.

With calm precision, Songo dispatched the ball into the net, sending the goalkeeper diving in the wrong direction and securing the first goal for his side.

After the break, JKT continued to press forward and doubled their lead in the 61st minute.

Defender Wilson Nangu took advantage of a rare mistake by Kagera Sugar’s goalkeeper, Chalamanda.

A failed clearance attempt left the ball ricocheting off the woodwork and as Chalamanda was on the ground helplessly on the goal line, Nangu pounced on the opportunity to seal the deal, sending the ball into the back of the net.

With this victory, JKT Tanzania rose to sixth place on the table with 26 points from 21 matches, while Kagera Sugar languish in second-to-last place with only 15 points.

Elsewhere, at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, Tanzania Prisons hosted Tabora United in an action-packed encounter that ended 1-1.

The hosts took an unexpected lead when an own goal from Emmanuel Chigozie gifted them the advantage. A header from Adam Adam, off a cross from Samson Mwaituka, deflected off Chigozie and past his own goalkeeper, Jean Noel, in the 38th minute.

Tabora United, however, had the last word, as Emmanuel Mwanengo rifled in a brilliant strike in the 89th minute, beating goalkeeper Sebusebu Samson and securing the draw for his side.

With this result, Tabora United are in fifth place with 34 points, while Tanzania Prisons are struggling in fourteenth with 18 points, both having played 21 matches
