JKCI unveils bid to bolster medical tourism

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) has prepared a strategic tourism plan to promote medical tourism as the institute leads in using technology in providing services to domestic and multinational patients.

The strategic plan, which was prepared in three days by members of the Institute’s medical tourism committee, is aimed at responding to the call of President Dr. Samia Sululhu Hassan to help Tanzania’s medical tourism reach new heights.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Chairman of the JKCI Medical Tourism Committee, Prof Harun Nyagori, said the members spent three days sitting together and planning strategies that can serve the patients from inside and outside Tanzania.

“This strategic plan that we are preparing is in the first stage, once approved, it will provide guidance on how to find a market for patients from the periphery and near the borders surrounding Tanzania, but also other parts of the world to be treated at our Institute”, said Prof. Nyagori

Prof Nyagori thanked the JKCI leadership for trusting and enabling the medical tourism committee to plan the first strategic tourism plan to manage all medical tourism activities at the Institute.

For his part, Sylvester Nandi, the facilitator of the strategic tourism plan, said JKCI has invested in the market and will follow the guidelines outlined in the strategic plan to ensure the success of medical tourism.
