JKCI to install heart service camp in Lake Zone regions

SHINYANGA: THE Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI) is planning to hold a special medical camp known as the Dr. Samia Suluhu Outreach Service at the Shinyanga Regional Referral Hospital (SRRH).

The special camp will start from August 18 to 22, 2025, to promote heart services to the secretary and citizens.

A statement issued by the Head of JKCI’s Communications Unit, Anna Nkinda, said the Institute’s Executive Director, Dr. Peter Kisenge, will lead a team of doctors and other specialists to make the camp a success.

“In collaboration with their colleagues, they will provide outpatient medical services known as the Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Outreach Services by conducting testing and treatment of heart diseases to the citizens of Shinyanga Region and neighboring regions,” said Nkinda.

She said that this testing will be carried out for children and adults from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Shinyanga Regional Referral Hospital located in Mwawaza Shinganya in the city.

She also said that there will be nutritionists who will provide education on good nutrition that will give citizens an understanding of following a good lifestyle that will help them avoid heart diseases.

“The education will also help avoid non-communicable diseases and can be avoided by following professional advice,” emphasized Nkinda.

She explained that those who are diagnosed with heart problems will undergo further examination and receive treatment there or be referred for treatment at the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI) located in Upanga in Dar es Salaam.

She urged citizens to come forward in large numbers to test their health to find out if they have heart problems so that treatment can be started early for those who are diagnosed with the disease.
