THE Japanese government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania’s healthcare sector in an effort to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

MWANZA: THE Japanese government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania’s healthcare sector in an effort to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

This pledge was made over the weekend by the Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Yashushi Misawa, during the inauguration of a modern maternal and child health clinic at Sumve Hospital in Kwimba District, Mwanza Region.

Ambassador Misawa highlighted that the longstanding relationship between Japan and Tanzania played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition. He urged healthcare providers to ensure that the high standards of the facility are matched by the quality of care, particularly for women and children. Emphasising the importance of maintaining modern infrastructure, he noted its potential to significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates.

Mwanza Regional Medical Officer Dr Jesca Lebba expressed gratitude for the completion of the facility, stating that it would enhance healthcare services for the community, with a particular focus on reliable care for women and children.

During their visit to Mwanza city, Ambassador Misawa’s delegation toured the Mwanza Regional Referral Hospital, Sekou-Toure, where he commended the management for their dedication to providing quality healthcare.

He affirmed that, in addition to Tanzania’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, the Japanese government would continue to support the sixth-phase government’s initiatives aimed at advancing healthcare services for women and children.

“The government of Japan is committed to supporting Tanzania to ensure that women and children receive quality healthcare services and that their lives are safeguarded,” he stated.
