Morogoro: Statistics do not lie. Mathematically Young Africans are the new Premier League winners this season after garnering a total of 71 points, which can’t be reached by any club.
This means Young Africans have won the most Tanzania Mainland’s Premier League titles in Tanzania’s football history, with a total of 30.
The Jangwani based giants succeeded to defend the Premier League title following a 3-1 triumph over Mtibwa Sugar at Manungu Complex in Morogoro on Monday.
They have annexed 71 points from 27 matches enough to declare them new champs as they cannot be reached by any other team.
Their closest pursuers Azam and Simba can attain only 69 points if they win all their remaining matches.
The hosts, Mtibwa Sugar, seized the lead thanks to Charles Ilafya in the 32nd I’m minute after heading home from a close range to beat golie Djigui Diarra.
At restart, Diarra was benched for Aboutwalib Mshery as the visitors responded in the 62nd minute through Kennedy Musonda.

Yanga will now play Dodoma Jiji at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma before hosting Tabora United and Tanzania Prisons at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
For Mtibwa Sugar, it is just a matter of time before stepping into the Championship League as they remain at the bottom of the 16-team table.
