Italian firm supports Tanzania’s Clean Energy campaign

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure citizens adopt clean cooking energy, in a bid to move away from the use of dirty energy sources that have harmful effects on health and the environment.
The statement was made today, January 9, 2025, in Dar es Salaam by the Director of Clean Cooking Energy from the Ministry of Energy, Nolasco Mlay, during the launch of a clean cooking energy project implemented by the Italian non-governmental organization CEFA. He said the government will continue to provide education and raise public awareness on the importance of using clean energy and its health, economic, and environmental benefits.
Mlay noted that the use of clean cooking energy is part of the government’s strategy to improve public health and reduce the negative impacts associated with the use of dirty energy sources such as firewood and charcoal.

On their part, the CEFA Representative in Tanzania, Cinzia D’intino, together with Clean Cooking Energy Technology Expert Saada Zaheer, said the project uses technology that consumes minimal electricity and is expected to be implemented over a period of approximately two years. They explained that in the first phase, the project will distribute 50,000 cookstoves, while subsequent phases aim to distribute up to 150,000 cookstoves to citizens.
They emphasized that the main objective of the project is to help citizens abandon the use of dirty energy and to promote the adoption of clean cooking energy for sustainable development.
Meanwhile, some beneficiaries of the project, including Tendeni Ally and Stapon Shayo, said the use of clean cooking energy has brought significant benefits compared to the period when they relied on dirty energy. They noted that previously they faced health challenges and environmental pollution, conditions that have significantly reduced since they began using clean energy.

They also expressed their gratitude to the government and development partners for introducing the project, which has helped improve their daily lives.
