Infrastructure, water shortages top MP Lukumay’s priority list

ARUSHA: THE Member of Parliament for Arumeru West Constituency, Dr Johannes Lukumay, has pledged to tackle water and road infrastructure challenges in the constituency to enable residents to engage more effectively in economic activities and improve their livelihoods.

He made the commitment at the first meeting of the Arusha District Council’s Councillors’ Assembly held recently.

Dr Lukumay said many residents, particularly those in Ngaramtoni, Oldonyosambu and surrounding areas, continue to face serious water shortages, while electricity supply also remains unreliable.

“One day I passed through Oldonyosambu and Ngaramtoni and witnessed firsthand the severity of the water crisis facing my constituents. Electricity is also a major challenge. As their representative, I will ensure that these issues are addressed,” he said.

He urged fellow councillors to prioritise resolving citizens’ problems as promised during the campaign period, emphasising the need for teamwork to deliver on their mandate to serve the people.

On electricity challenges, Dr Lukumay said he will meet with officials from the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) in Meru District to push for solutions.

He added that he will also collaborate with the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to rehabilitate dilapidated local roads.

He noted that dust levels are high on the unpaved roads and that upgrading roads across the 27 wards to gravel standard, with proper drainage systems, would greatly ease transportation and support residents’ economic activities
