High Court Simiyu Zone begins operations

SIMIYU: THE Judiciary has officially announced the commencement of operations of the High Court of Tanzania Simiyu Zone, effective January 2, 2026, following the completion of an Integrated Justice Centre in Bariadi District, Simiyu Region.

The announcement was made this week during a meeting with justice stakeholders in the region by Mr Elimo Masawe, the Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania, Simiyu SubRegistry.

Mr Masawe said that the mandate of the High Court of Tanzania Shinyanga Zone to receive and hear cases originating from Simiyu Region including civil, land, criminal and labour cases will officially cease on January 1, 2026.

He explained that starting January 2, 2026, all cases from Simiyu Region that qualify for registration at the High Court level will be filed and handled at the High Court of Tanzania Simiyu Zone, located within the Integrated Justice Centre.

Mr Masawe further clarified that all matters originating from Simiyu Region that are required to be instituted at the High Court will now be registered at the Simiyu Sub-Registry, instead of the Shinyanga Zone.

On her part, the Resident Magistrate in Charge of the Simiyu Regional Court, Ms Martha Mahumbuga, said the establishment of the Integrated Justice Centre marks a significant milestone in bringing judicial services closer to the people.

Several residents who spoke to journalists commended the government for decentralising High Court services, noting that they previously incurred high costs to access such services in Shinyanga Region
