Harness Mwanza’s economic potential, TIA graduates told

MWANZA: GRADUATES from the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA), Mwanza Campus, have been urged to leverage economic opportunities in the region to improve their livelihoods and contribute to national development.
The call was made yesterday by Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Mr Elikana Balandya, during the institute’s 23rd graduation ceremony held in Mwanza.
Mr Balandya urged the graduates to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired to drive transformation in their communities, particularly in key economic sectors within the region.
“If you apply creativity and the knowledge you have gained, you will make great progress. Mwanza has many opportunities, including cage fish farming, fishing and agriculture,” he said.
He further encouraged the youth to embrace modern approaches and innovation in establishing and managing economic activities to keep pace with technological advancements and labour market demands.
A total of 1,035 graduates received certificates, diplomas and degrees during the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, TIA Chief Executive Officer, Prof William Pallangyo, said student enrolment at the Mwanza Campus has been steadily increasing over the years, reflecting the institute’s progress in delivering quality education.

He noted that the campus started with 381 students in 2012, and the number rose to 1,328 in 2024, indicating growing demand for education in accounting and business management.
Prof Pallangyo added that the institute continues to invest in practical training and infrastructure development, including the ongoing construction of student hostels and a campus canteen.
He said the hostels are 70 per cent complete and are expected to cost 7.2bn/-, while the canteen, at 4 per cent completion, is projected to cost 351m/- and is expected to be ready by 2026.
The CEO also thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for increasing funds for higher education loans, noting that the number of beneficiaries at Mwanza Campus rose from 741 in 2024 to 1,299 in 2025.
Prof Pallangyo further announced that the campus has introduced a new Business Management programme, from certificate to diploma level, as part of efforts to broaden its academic offerings.
He highlighted that the campus has conducted and published 21 research papers in economics, finance, and leadership, contributing significantly to national academic growth and development.
