DODOMA: DEPUTY Minister for Energy, Judith Kapinga has said that the government plans to launch a new project to extend electricity connection to hamlets in December this year.
She said the project will involve the construction of medium and lowvoltage transmission lines.
Ms Kapinga said this in Parliament on Friday while responding to a supplementary question from Mbozi MP George Mwanisongole, who wanted to know when the government would begin supplying large-scale electricity to villages that had not yet been connected and therefore lacked the necessary infrastructure for development projects.
Responding, she said in the project, which will begin in December 2024, they have made significant improvements as it has transformers with capacities of 50, 100 and 200 Kilo-voltamperes (kVA), depending on the size of the village.

Responding to a basic question from the Iringa Urban MP, Jesca Msambatavangu, Ms Kapinga said that the government continues to extend electricity to rural areas, including semi-urban areas.
Ms Msambatavangu wanted to know when the government would fulfil its promise of reliable electricity supply in semi-urban areas such as Ugele, Mosi, Cargrielo, Machinjio, Ulonge, Mtalagala and Msisina areas in her constituency.
Furthermore, Ms Kapinga said for the areas of Ugele, Mosi, Cargrielo, Machinjio, Ulonge, Mtalagala and Msisina in the Iringa Urban constituency, the government will provide electricity through the project to extend electricity to 15 hamlets in each constituency.
She added that the areas of Cargrielo and Machinjio will be supplied with electricity by TANESCO through its internal projects to extend electricity infrastructure to the people.
As of July, this year, Rural Energy Agency (REA) connected with electricity a total of 12,031 villages, equivalent to 98 per cent of all villages.
