Govt stresses medical confidentiality

DODOMA: THE Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Mr Ramadhani Lwamo, has urged public servants to maintain confidentiality in health matters, respect patients’ privacy, and ensure that medical information is shared only with the consent of the individuals concerned.
Opening a training session for the Commission’s peer educators in Dodoma, Mr Lwamo said observing medical confidentiality is vital in promoting trust and professionalism among staff.
“When it comes to medical information, staff must respect patients’ privacy and ensure such details are disclosed only with the individual’s consent to avoid spreading inaccurate or misleading information,” he emphasised.
He further encouraged employees living with health conditions to voluntarily disclose their status, when necessary, in order to access appropriate support, calling for compassion and understanding in handling such cases.
Mr Lwamo also reminded employees to exercise regularly, eat healthily, and avoid risky behaviours that may lead to chronic diseases and HIV infections, saying a healthy workforce is key to achieving productivity in public service.
“Good physical and mental health are vital foundations for effective work performance. Many illnesses today are caused by poor eating habits, lack of exercise and risky lifestyles. Each of us has a duty to protect our health and live responsibly,” he emphasised.

He further underscored the need for employers to integrate workplace health strategies into their annual plans and build capacity among staff to address health challenges.
The Mining Commission, he added, has continued to set an example by promoting physical activities through sports bonanzas and ensuring that employees with chronic illnesses receive proper nutrition and healthcare.
One of the participants, Jackson Mumanyi, a Mining Technician from the Kahama Resident Mines Office, commended the Commission for organising the training, saying it will help enhance awareness and transform attitudes among employees towards disease prevention and healthy living.
