Govt commits construction of best stadia

TANZANIA: THE Tanzanian government has said it will ensure to come with the best football stadia with quality infrastructure in different parts of the country.

Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Damas Ndumbaro, revealed that after he visited the Laurent Pokou Football Stadium in San Pedro, Ivory Coast, to learn and see how the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts have made preparations for this year’s competition, in terms of infrastructure.

Ndumbaro said the type of stadia he saw fit in various regions of Tanzania, due to the fact most of them are well organised and well modernised.

“The Tanzania government continues to build different sports stadia in Dodoma, Arusha and other parts,” he explained.

However, Ndumbaro welcomed different stakeholders to support the development of sports infrastructure in different regions.

“We will do our part as a government to make sure we build different stadia and I will love to see stakeholders support the development of sports infrastructure,” he explained.

During his visit to Ivory Coast, Ndumbaro was accompanied by the Director of Sports Development, Ally Mayay and other ministry officials. Tanzania continues to prepare for the AFCON 2027 tournament that it will co-host with Kenya and Uganda.

This is after Senegal, Botswana and Egypt failed to secure hosting chance, after the EAC trio’s submission sailed through. Furthermore, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has already directed the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports to ensure two state-of-the-art stadia are constructed ahead of AFCON 2027.

“I direct the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports to ensure proper preparations, including timely accomplishment of two state-of-theart stadia in Arusha and Dodoma,” President Samia shared in her X (formerly Twitter) account. The 2025 AFCON will be hosted by Morocco.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that Morocco will replace Guinea as the host nation for the tournament. The dates for the tournament are yet to be confirmed due to a potential clash with the Club World Cup, which is scheduled for mid-2025.
