Geita gears up for 25th Grand Golf Celebration

GEITA: GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML), in proud partnership with the Lake Victoria Golf Club, will host the 25th edition of the Geita Open Golf Tournament this weekend at the Lake Victoria Golf Club in Geita.

This year’s tournament holds special significance, marking a dual milestone, 25 years of GGML’s operations in Tanzania and 25 years since the establishment of the Lake Victoria Golf Club will tee off from October 4 to 5.

First held in 2000, the Geita Open has grown into one of the region’s most enduring and prestigious sporting events, symbolising unity, celebration and community spirit.

Set against the unique backdrop of a nine-hole desert-style course established in 1999, the Lake Victoria Golf Club has been home to the Geita Open since its inception.

Over the years, the event has consistently brought together a diverse mix of participants from across the mining sector, government institutions, corporate partners, employees and the wider Geita community.

This year’s tournament promises to be the biggest yet, attracting players and guests from across Tanzania and beyond, drawn by the competitive play, meaningful networking opportunities and a chance to celebrate a shared legacy.

Speaking ahead of the event, GGML Managing Director, Ashraf Suryaningrat, emphasised the symbolic importance of this year’s tournament.

“The Geita Open is more than a golf tournament as it’s a reflection of the relationships and trust we’ve built over the past 25 years. It underscores our enduring commitment to the people of Geita and the development of the region. We are thrilled to welcome our partners and community members to celebrate this momentous occasion with us at Lake Victoria Golf Club,” said the MD.

Echoing the sentiment, Acting Golf Chairman of Lake Victoria Golf Club, Isack Schutte, highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the club and the mine.

“The Lake Victoria Golf Club has proudly stood beside GGML for 25 years, serving as a place where sport, camaraderie and community thrive. Hosting the 25th Geita Open alongside GGML is a fitting tribute to our shared history. We eagerly look forward to welcoming players and guests for what promises to be a truly memorable event,” he said.

The 2025 Geita Open will feature two full days of thrilling golf, community engagement activities and high-level networking.
