Geita Council approves bus terminal project

GEITA: THE Geita Municipal Council has signed a contract worth 19.17bn/- for the construction of a modern regional bus terminal in Magogo area.
The funds for the new terminal come from a World Bank loan supporting the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness (TACTIC) Project.
The contract, awarded to M/s SIHOTECH Engineering Company Ltd in joint venture with AMJ Global Multi Contractors, will last 15 months, from June 15, 2025, to September 14, 2026.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony held recently in Geita town, Geita Municipal Director Mr Yefred Myenzi said the new terminal will solve the challenges of the current inadequate facility.
“The terminal will be built on a 10.9-hectare site and will accommodate 42 buses and 152 motorcycles. It is expected to generate about 274.12 million/- annually,” Mr Myenzi said.
He added, “Previously, daily revenue ranged from 600,000/- to 700,000/-, but with the new terminal and increased vehicles and services, we expect daily revenue to reach about 1.2m/-.”
