GCLA warns against chemical sales to unregistered dealers

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA) has issued a stern warning to major chemical distributors to stop selling chemicals to unregistered medium and small-scale dealers.

This warning was issued by the Director of Regulatory Services, Mr Daniel Ndiyo, during a meeting with stakeholders involved in the import and distribution of controlled chemicals. The meeting was organised by GCLA and held at the Eastern Zone offices in Dar es Salaam, recently.

“All chemical stakeholders must be registered with the GCLA according to the law and comply with the guidelines we have set to ensure they conduct their business safely, protecting human health and the environment,” said Director Ndiyo.

He advised stakeholders to adhere to registration protocols so that chemicals are used solely for their intended industrial purposes and safely. Mr Geoffrey Jato, a chemical industry stakeholder, praised the GCLA for providing education and maintaining close cooperation with stakeholders, which has helped resolve various challenges, including registration issues.

“The registration knowledge we gained was previously unknown to many stakeholders. Now, more will be encouraged to register and acquire this education so they can handle chemical purchases and production safely,” Jato remarked.
