Gamondi hails impressive performance despite narrow win
YOUNG Africans Head Coach, Miguel Gamondi says his team’s performance was impressive despite earning a slim 1-0 victory over their opponents Dodoma Jiji on their Monday night match at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
Gamondi said his team had a lion’s share of the match as his players took control of the match from the word go however, they failed to utilise many scoring chances that they created and only managed to score one goal which was enough to kill the match.
“I am proud that my players played very well, they greatly controlled the game, and we could have a big win but unfortunately we managed to score only one,” he explained.
Apart from that Gomondi said that despite missing some of his key players, he was very positive about his team’s performance.
Yanga’s late winner was netted by Mudathir Yahya in the 82nd minute of the match and saw the defending league champions reclaim the top seat of the league from Azam FC after collecting 34 points from 13 outings.
Dodoma Jiji remained in their 7th position after accumulating 18 points in their 14 matches with 5 wins, 3 draws, and 6 defeats.
While his counterpart, Dodoma Jiji’s tactician Francis Baraza as well said he was impressed by his side’s performance and the fight they put up against Yanga despite losing the match in the eleventh hour of the match.
The capital city-based side coach, Baraza said his team’s performance in the match against Yanga was good and showed the team had improved except for some small mistakes that they would work on.
“It was a good match, my players performed very well and put up a big fight against our opponents, although we lost the game, I am proud of the quality displayed by my players and the team in general,” he disclosed.
However, Baraza insisted that he would work on the small mistakes that his team committed in their game against Yanga to make them more compatible.
“There are a few mis- takes we did that I need to work on, hopefully in our next match against Mashujaa FC, we will be in a good position to well and secure the vital three points,” he said.
