Four perish in road carnage at Bunju Sokoni area, Dar es Salaam

DAR ES SALAAM: FOUR people have been killed and others injured in a road accident involving a bus and a car in the Bunju Sokoni area of Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

The accident occurred on September 7, 2026, at around 7:40 p.m. after a Yutong bus, registration number T 235 EMJ, owned by Abood Company, collided with a Toyota IST, registration number T 274 ERU.

According to a statement issued by the Tanzania Police Force, the bus was being driven by Christian Steven Shemuhilu, 38, and was travelling from Tegeta towards Bunju.

The Toyota IST, meanwhile, was travelling towards the Tanga region.

Police said the accident was caused by negligence on the part of the bus driver, who allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle without taking adequate precautions, resulting in a collision with the oncoming car.

The four people who died in the accident have been identified as Hamad Mohamed Juma, Edward Kimenya, Magdalena Manyenga and Melina Emmanuel Kayoka.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mwananyamala Hospital in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, where they are being kept pending further arrangements.

The bus driver, Christian Steven Shemuhilu, has been arrested and remains in police custody as further legal action is taken.
