Fire and Rescue Force warns of strong winds on Lake Victoria
KAGERA: THE Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force (TFRF) has issued a warning to people engaging in activities along Lake Victoria due to strong winds that could be dangerous.
Sergeant Shaban Mussa made this announcement following a tragic incident in which a 14-year-old boy, Rwegasira Joakim, drowned while swimming at Gymkhana shore in Bukoba Municipal.
“The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the boy was swept away by a strong current. His body was recovered on Friday and handed over to his relatives for burial in Muleba District,” Sgt Mussa reported.

He added that at least five drowning incidents have been recorded in Lake Victoria this year alone. Meanwhile, police in Kagera Region are investigating a disturbing incident where unknown individuals allegedly dug up the grave of a one-year-old boy in Kyerwa District.
Kagera Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Blasius Chatanda confirmed that the child was buried on September 12 in Bugomora Ward, Kayinga village.
“A group of unknown individuals dug up the grave and vanished with the body. A suspect is currently assisting the Police with investigations,” he stated.
