Eye patients to benefit from Mloganzila Hospital medical camp

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Muhimbili Mloganzila National Hospital has organised a five-day eye treatment camp. The camp is expected to start from Monday to Friday next week at the Mlonganzila Hospital in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam.

Speaking during an interview, the spokesperson of the Global Medicare, Mr Albert Kilalah, who is the coordinator of the camp, said the camp is for people with squint, stuck eyelids and those with accident scars.

He said apart from Tanzanian specialist doctors, others will be Dr Nabila Elias and Dr Safwat El Badri from Dubai to offer the services.

“Those with the challenges mentioned above should come to Mlonganzila for preliminary tests before the start of the camp on Monday. This is a good opportunity to meet with specialist doctors, so take this advantage,” he said.

He said the foreign specialist doctors will collaborate with local specialist doctors from Muhimbili National Hospital and Mlonganzila.

He said in order to transfer that knowledge to locals, they have invited doctors from Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Mbeya Zonal Hospital, Bugando Mwanza, Tumbi Kibaha, Mtwara RRH Hospital as well as Msasani CCBRT in Dar es Salaam.

“These local doctors will collaborate with these foreign specialists from Dubai to perform surgeries, an opportunity that they will use as a learning area so that after the foreigners have left, locals could continue to perform this type of surgery,” he said.

He said that the camp is a result of big investment in medical equipment purchased by the sixphase government, in line with recruiting more medical staff.

He said that in the past such treatment was done abroad but due to the investment in health facilities the treatment can be accessed within the country.

Ophthalmologist at Tumbi Coast Regional Referral Hospital, Fadhili Swai, said he was happy to see that they are going to provide a service that is very rare in this country.

Eye specialist from Mtwara Regional Referral Hospital, Mganga Majura said that the arrival of foreign specialists could also be an opportunity to market Tanzania’s hospitals internationally following huge investments.
