EWURA warns against illegal fuel storage, sale
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Energy and Water Utilities Authority (EWURA) has raised an alarm over recent increase of fire incidents as result of improper storage and sale of petroleum products.
In a statement to the public, EWURA cited the illegal use of plastic cans and bottles to carry fuel as a major safety hazard. Such practices violate health, safety and environmental (HSE) regulations, which are designed to protect people, property and the environment.
The Director General of EWURA, Dr James Andilile, reminded fuel station owners of their obligation to adhere to Regulation Number 27 of 2022 which mandates that all petrol stations take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of health, properties the environment and avoid fire accidents.
EWURA emphasised that selling petrol to buyers using unpermitted devices for carrying or storing fuel is strictly prohibited.

“Therefore, the EWURA reminds all owners of the petrol stations to adhere to regulation Number 27 by not selling the petrol to buyer who come with unpermitted devices for carrying or storing the petrol,” the statement emphasised.
The authority warned that its inspectors would be conducting regular inspections to identify and take legal action against dealers who violate this regulation, including the closure of their petrol stations.
