EDWARD LOWASSA: Former Tanzania’s PM passes away aged 70
DAR ES SALAAM: Former Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa has passed away today at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in Dar es Salaam where he was undergoing treatment.
According to details provided by a close member of his family, the former presidential candidate, who represented the opposition Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), was suffering from a long-time illness and was undergoing treatments at the JKCI until he took his last breath.
The 70-year-old man, who served as a Member of Parliament for the Monduli Constituency, also held the position of Prime Minister from 2005 to 2008 under the fourth phase government led by then President Jakaya Kikwete.
