DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has thanked Tanzanians for trusting her and giving her the mandate to lead the country for the next five years.

She promised to use all her energy, talents, and knowledge to build a Tanzania characterized by unity, peace, and development.

Speaking at her inauguration ceremony held in Dodoma, Dr. Samia commended the National Electoral Commission (INEC) for efficiently and transparently managing the general election, and praised opposition party candidates for conducting their political campaigns peacefully and respectfully over the approximately 60-day campaign period.

She also congratulated the President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, on his victory and inauguration to continue his duties as President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council.

“The election is over; now it is time to build Tanzanian character and unity,” said President Samia, emphasizing that her government will uphold the principles of justice, peace, and inclusive development.

President Samia expressed regret over the deaths and property destruction that occurred in some areas during the elections, noting that preliminary reports indicate some of the youths involved in the unrest came from outside Tanzania.
