Dr Mwinyi graces opening of the regional court in Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR: THE President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, on has today, September 8, 2025, officially inaugurated the newly constructed Regional and District Court buildings located in Mazizini, Urban West Region.

This marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the justice delivery infrastructure and ensure that judicial services are accessible, efficient, and professional.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, President Dr. Mwinyi highlighted that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has a special plan to construct government offices, the House of Representatives, and court buildings. The main objective, he said, is to enhance accountability within public institutions and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

President Mwinyi further explained that the completion of these court buildings is a crucial milestone leading to the implementation of another major project, which is expected to be funded by the World Bank. This upcoming project will include the construction of five new courts and the establishment of an Integrated Justice Service Center, which will house various legal services under one roof.

In his address, President Mwinyi urged all judiciary staff to ensure the proper maintenance of the modern infrastructure for the benefit of the nation. He emphasized that having quality buildings alone is not enough without a genuine commitment to delivering justice to the people.

Lastly, the President commended the Judiciary of Tanzania and CRJE East Africa for their excellent work in designing and constructing the modern court facilities. He noted that the high standards of the buildings reflect strong collaboration between local institutions and development partners, whose joint efforts continue to play a key role in advancing Zanzibar’s development agenda.
