Dr Biteko tasks public institutions’ CEOs, board chairmen to deliver

ARUSHA: THE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has called on board chairpersons and chief executives of public institutions in Tanzania to ensure effective implementation of strategic resolutions made during working forums.

He emphasized that these leaders carry a significant responsibility to improve the lives of Tanzanians, especially considering the government’s investment of 86tri/- in its institutions and state-owned enterprises.

Dr. Biteko made the remarks today, August 26, 2025, in Arusha while closing the CEOs Forum 2025, a working meeting for board chairpersons and executives of public institutions.

“Tanzanians depend on you to transform their lives. If we are talking about poverty among our people, the government must take the lead in eradicating it. Therefore, you must understand that you have a duty to uplift the well-being of our citizens,” said Dr. Biteko.

He assured the leaders that the government fully acknowledges the role that public institutions and enterprises play in driving national economic growth, and appreciates the significance of these forums in enabling the execution of key development strategies.

Citing results from the 2024 forum, Dr. Biteko highlighted that public institutions were directed to improve performance and increase their contributions to the central government fund. As a result, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) doubled its contribution from  5.5 billion in the 2023/2024 financial year to  11.1bn/- in 2024/2025.

Dr. Biteko also reminded the leaders to implement the directive issued by Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango on curbing revenue leakages in public institutions.

Earlier, the Treasury Registrar, Nehemia Mchechu, reported that more than 300 companies participated in the forum, with over 650 attendees.

The forum was held under the theme: “Sustainable Business Partnerships in a Globally Competitive Environment: The Role of Public Enterprises.”
