Dodoma RC calls on elders to lead in promoting peace, voter turnout

DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has urged elders to take the lead in mobilizing communities to turn out and vote in large numbers during the October 29, 2025 General Election, while guiding the youth to uphold peace throughout the electoral process.

Speaking to senior citizens and leaders in Dodoma on Thursday, Ms Senyamule said elders play a vital role in inspiring civic participation and safeguarding unity before, during, and after the polls.

“It is the responsibility of every citizen to elect leaders who will bring development. I urge you, our elders, to be at the forefront in encouraging people to vote, as the government’s achievements are evident across Dodoma,” she said.

The RC noted that Dodoma has seen tremendous transformation over the past decade, with improved infrastructure and growing investor interest reflecting the government’s continued commitment to development.

“Dodoma today is not the same as it was ten years ago. The city is now an attractive destination for both Tanzanians and international investors thanks to major changes made by the government,” she said.

Ms Senyamule added that the government continues to raise awareness on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to help the elderly stay healthy through regular exercise and balanced diets.

During the meeting, elders shared their concerns over limited access to healthcare, with Mzee Bakari Chaurembo appealing for health insurance coverage to ease access to medical services.

Responding, Ms Senyamule said her office will work with relevant institutions to address their challenges, including improving healthcare and infrastructure.

She also promised to relay their request to the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to ensure elders are given special voting arrangements.

The forum with senior citizens forms part of RC Senyamule’s ongoing consultative meetings with various community groups aimed at enhancing dialogue and promoting inclusive development across the Dodoma Region.
