Dodoma police honoured for safeguarding people with disabilities

DODOMA: THE Tanzania Teachers’ Union (CWT) has presented a special award to the Dodoma Regional Police office in recognition of its outstanding contribution to safeguarding people with disabilities and the wider community against crime.

The accolade was handed over at the Union’s General Election meeting for women teachers and teachers with disabilities, which brought together educators from various regions across the country.

Speaking after receiving the award, Dodoma Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) George Katabazi, said the recognition was an honour and a significant morale booster for the force in its commitment to combatting crime, particularly against persons with disabilities.

“This award is not just a token it is a symbol of the confidence the public has in the police. It motivates us to enhance our efforts in ensuring safety and security in all corners of Dodoma, especially for people living with disabilities,” said SACP Katabazi.

He added that the Police Force remains committed to ensuring peace and order prevail and warned that anyone attempting to commit crimes, particularly targeting people with disabilities, would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Police Force is a friend to all. But for those planning to cause harm or violate the rights of people with disabilities, we will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action,” he said, calling on teachers to carry out fair elections and assuring them of the Police’s full protection.

SACP Katabazi also urged teachers to continue working closely with the Police and to report any suspicious activity or criminal elements in their schools or homes, stressing that community-police cooperation remains key to a safe environment.

On its part, CWT leadership said the decision to award the Police was based on the strong collaboration between the Force, teachers, people with disabilities, and the community at large in strengthening security and addressing the needs of vulnerable groups.
