Dodoma gender desk gets motorcycles to tackle GBV

DODOMA: THE Gender and Children Desk in Dodoma Region has received motorcycles to strengthen its operations in handling gender-based violence (GBV) and child abuse cases.

The five motorcycles were officially handed over on Monday this week by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Pili Mande, who also serves as National Coordinator of the Tanzania Police Female Network (TPF-Net).

“This support will improve the efficiency of desk officers in carrying out their duties,” she said.

The motorcycles, provided through collaboration between Police Headquarters and the German Development Agency (GIZ), will be distributed to Dodoma Urban, Chamwino, Mpwapwa, Kondoa, Chemba and Bahi districts.

They are expected to enhance follow-ups on reported cases, support community awareness programmes, and ensure a quick response to victims.

SACP Mande stressed that the initiative demonstrates the Police Force’s determination, in partnership with stakeholders, to ensure communities access reliable services while strengthening the fight against violence with public support.

For his part, Kondoa District Police Commander (OCD), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Desdery Rugimbana, said the motorcycles will be instrumental in tackling GBV.

“These motorcycles will speed up our operations. We urge residents to continue reporting abuse cases so that immediate action can be taken,” he said.

Dodoma Regional Gender Desk Coordinator Christer Kayombo echoed the call, encouraging citizens not to conceal incidents of violence.

“Do not hide cases of abuse. Once reported, they will be acted upon. These motorcycles will help us reach all areas to provide support,” he said.

He further appealed to residents not to sympathise with perpetrators but to report incidents without fear.
