Diplomat backs Samia’s clean energy movement

COAST REGION: HONORARY Consul of Seychelles in Tanzania, Ms Maryvonne Pool, has called for support to President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts for advocating for clean cooking energy use.
Ms Pool, who is also the founder and chief executive officer of African Reflections Foundation (ARF), stated that she recognizes contribution of President Samia who has been named champion in advocating for the use of the clean cooking energy.
The diplomat made the remarks on Thursday at an event to hand over donation of 400 Oryx cooking gas cylinders and stoves to women at Mwalusembe ward, Mkuranga District, Coast Region.
At the event, Ms Pool and the Oryx Energies Tanzania emphasized on the protection of environment as they encouraged the residents to stop cutting trees for making charcoal.
She said the decision to collaborate with the Oryx Gas company in donating the gas cylinders was in recognition and supporting efforts by President Samia in campaign for clean cooking energy in the country.
“During the COP28 in Dubai, President Samia was elected as champion of advocating for clean cooking energy in Africa, so it is good to support her in this agenda. The President deserves accolades and I have vowed to support her at any means,” she argued.
On his part, Rufiji District Commissioner Major Edward Giwele, said it is now high time to actively support President Samia in pushing for the use of clean cooking energy.
“Doing so would lead to saving environment and expand economic opportunities particularly for women in the district and other places,” he said.
He stressed that the President’s mission is to protect environment in the country.
“Let me take this opportunity to commend the Oryx Gas Company and the African Reflections Foundation for their collaboration to donate the gas cylinders here,” he said.
Earlier, representative from the OGTL, Ms Janeth Mutashobya, said the donation was part of implementation of their objectives to encourage the use of clean energy.
She said since July 2021 the company has been focusing on supporting President Samia in advocating for clean energy use.
Commenting, Mkuranga District Administrative Secretary, Mr Omar Mwanga, stated that the district has been among victims of deforestation due to rampant trees cutting.
