Devastating impact of ongoing rains: Dozens killed, over 1,000 rescued

DAR ES SALAAM: The ongoing rains in different parts of the country, including Morogoro and the Coast regions, have cumulatively killed a total of 52 people.

Over 1,000 others have been rescued so far.

Briefing reporters in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr. Mobhare Matinyi, said out of the killed people, 28 died in Morogoro region and five others in the Coastal region.

Quoting Police Force reports, Mr. Matinyi added that rains have mostly affected two regions, Morogoro and the Coast, stating that another 19 deaths have been recorded in other regions.

However, he said that the government is still continuing its efforts to provide assistance to various victims affected by the rains, while noting that in Rufiji, about 1,114 people have been rescued.

“While the rescue operations are ongoing, we will keep updating on the effects of the rains and the steps taken to assist victims and evacuate them,” he stated.
