DC hails foundation for supporting health sector

DODOMA: THE Energy and Livelihoods for Communities (ELICO) Foundation has donated transport and ICT equipment to four dispensaries in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region to support government initiatives aimed at strengthening the health sector in the region.

The donation, received by Chamwino District Commissioner Ms Janeth Mayanja will benefit Chitabuli, Chiwondo, Mafurungu and Mahamha dispensaries.

The donation handed over includes three electric motorcycles, one electric bicycle, three computers, three printers and three Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Mahamha Dispensary, DC Mayanja expressed gratitude to ELICO Executive Director, Mr Sisty Basil for supporting government efforts to improve healthcare services in Chamwino.

“We thank you for choosing Chamwino District. You could have selected any district in Dodoma Region, but you chose to complement the government’s efforts here to enhance health service delivery,” she said.

DC Mayanja praised Acting District Executive Director and District Medical Officer Dr Euseby Kessy for his effective collaboration with development partners, especially NGOs, in strengthening healthcare services within the district.

Dr Kessy, in turn, appreciated ELICO for providing essential work tools to health centres, especially newly established dispensaries.

On their part, Dr Martin Mluge of Mahamha Dispensary and Dr Lucy Mushi of Chiwondo Dispensary said the equipment will significantly improve service delivery, particularly in outreach programmes and data management.

In addition to the equipment, ELICO has constructed three boreholes at Chamwino District Hospital, Chitabuli, and Mafurungu dispensaries and installed solar-powered water pumps.

The organisation has also installed solar energy systems at all four dispensaries that received the new equipment. Founded as a non-profit, ELICO Foundation aims to accelerate access to modern energy solutions for socio-economic development in rural Africa.

The organisation is managed by a team of young experts in renewable energy, business development, climate finance, agronomy, water management and access to finance.

ELICO functions as a renewable energy hub, promoting innovation, research, development, incubation and demonstration of appropriate technologies to expand access to clean energy services, supporting socio-economic growth in energydeprived communities.

Stakeholders continue to back the health sector amid plans to allocate 1.62tri/- for implementing key priorities in the 2025/2026 financial year.

In her budget speech in June, Health Minister Jenista Mhagama outlined the ministry’s priorities in the current fiscal year, including strengthening mental health services and integrated care for children, the elderly and people with disabilities.
