Dar hosts 2nd OCR Level 1 Training to boost technical expertise

DAR ES SALAAM: ALL preparations are complete for the second Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) Official Level 1 Training (OT), set to commence today in Dar es Salaam.
Scope Events Promotion Secretary General, Abdallah Chapa confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ yesterday that arrangements for the threeday training have been finalised.
The training that includes both theoretical and practical sessions, will once again be conducted by Nayibe Statia, Chairperson of the World Obstacle Officiating Committee at the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO).
Statia previously conducted the inaugural training in Dar es Salaam in September last year, with over 50 participants from Kenya, Rwanda, Denmark and hosts Tanzania in attendance.
During last year’s training, Statia expressed confidence in Tanzania’s potential in obstacle racing, emphasising the importance of government recognition and support.
Chapa assured that all is in place, as instructor Statia arrived in Tanzania earlier this week, ready to conduct the training.

Accompanied by members of Scope Events Sports Promotion and the National Committee for Pentathlon Multisport Tanzania, Statia also met with Neema Msitha, Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council of Tanzania (NSCT), in Dodoma.
“They discussed the process of establishing a federation for the sport, as well as details of the OCR Official Level 1 training set to commence today in Dar es Salaam,” Chapa stated.
He said that the training will include presentations and demonstrations on obstacle course racing, targeting NSC Officers and various institutional stakeholders.
Over 50 participants are expected to attend, aiming to increase the number of Obstacle Technical Officers in Tanzania from 33 to at least 70.
“This second training session, known as batch 2, is part of broader efforts to enhance the technical capacity of institutions involved in sports disciplines governed by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) and FISO,” Chapa added.
He noted that the first day will consist of a theory session at The Green Sports Park in Oysterbay, followed by practical sessions and examinations at Pande Game Reserve in Mabwepande for the remaining days.
This initiative aims to strengthen Tanzania’s technical capabilities in international competitions and create opportunities for the country to host global obstacle racing events in the future.
