Dar authorities asked to support HEET project

DAR ES SALAAM: GOVERNMENT authorities have been asked to cooperate with the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in implementing the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project so that it is completed on time.
The call was made recently by the Dar es Slaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila who was represented by the Ubungo District Administrative Secretary (DAS), Mr Hassam Mkwawa to the Dar es Salaam stakeholder’s meeting to receive feedback on the implementation of the HEET project which is implemented by the UDSM in the region.
“I urge all stakeholders including the departments responsible for the provision of various services such as water, electricity and communication to ensure that this expansion of the College goes hand in hand with the availability of those community services in the college as the number of students will increase as well as the need for services.
HEET project is a fiveyear worth 425 million US dollars equivalent to 972 bn/- that aims to strengthen the learning environment and labour market that is implemented by various universities.
“NEMC, Urban Planning, Land and others make sure that you issue all permits on time to support the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to improve higher education in the country,” he said.
Mr Mkwawa insisted that “I realise also in this project, UDSM will build a total of nine buildings in our region (Dar es Salaam) where the implementation will directly affect two municipalities of Ubungo and Kinondoni, therefore, you should make sure that you grab every opportunity that will be available in this project for the growth of economic and social benefits.”
On his part, the HEET Deputy Coordinator, Dr Liberato Haule said the project was carried out in line with the National Development Vision of 2025 and the CCM election Manifesto 2020-2025.
“The project aims to strengthen the industrial economy to match the middle economy and increase employment opportunities for various groups, especially young people.
Dr Haule said the UDSM was allocated 47.5 million US dollars equal to 110 bn/- for the implementation of the HEET Project for a period of five years from June 2021 to July 2026.
