CUF reveals policies to enable the Tanzania economy to grow 10% annually

DAR ES SALAAM: CHAMA cha Wananchi CUF has announced that, if granted the mandate to lead the government, it will build a modern economy capable of competing both nationally and internationally, while ensuring that it benefits all citizens and protects the environment.

According to the party’s Election Manifesto, this economy will be resilient to the challenges of globalization and will grow rapidly, focusing on equity and the well-being of citizens. Additionally, CUF has pledged to create a favorable environment for investment, business, and international cooperation without compromising Tanzania’s sovereignty.

The party emphasized that the foundation of economic success will be good governance and the implementation of robust policies that will enable the economy to grow at an average rate of 10 percent annually. This growth is aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2030.

To ensure rapid economic growth, CUF has pledged significant investment in key infrastructure sectors such as roads, railways, ports, communications, energy, clean water, education, and health. These efforts are intended to attract private sector investment in production and commerce.

The manifesto states that a government of national unity led by CUF will prioritize a true agricultural revolution aimed at increasing productivity and efficiency, alongside rebuilding the industrial development sector using local raw materials.

“The government of national unity under CUF will develop a strong strategy to establish and expand industries that utilize domestic resources and create large-scale employment, such as textile and garment factories, footwear and leather goods, household items, and electrical and electronic equipment industries,” the manifesto explains.

CUF’s manifesto highlights agriculture as a key sector in the strategy to grow the economy and alleviate poverty, especially in rural areas. It states that, within the next five years, the agriculture budget under a CUF-led government will be increased to between 10percent and 15 percent of the total national budget.

In the mining sector, CUF aims to ensure that at least 30percent of the value of mineral sales contributes to government revenue. Furthermore, the party plans to establish a sound system for managing public finances and enforcing fiscal discipline.

In addition to eliminating unnecessary tax exemptions, CUF plans to close loopholes for tax evasion by reducing the number and rates of taxes and levies, aiming to make the tax system more supportive of economic development and citizens’ welfare.
