Cricket Legends Reunion Tour takes shape

DAR ES SALAAM: AS about a month remains before the eagerly awaited Cricket Legends Tour to take the country by storm, over 20 cricket legends of Tanzania from abroad are ready to prepare for the trip.

Abroad legends for the forthcoming tour are from the United Kingdom, Canada and the USA as more are expected to join before the trip.

The second tour brings together cricket legends living abroad and those living in the country.

It is set to be held in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo from the 25th to the 27th of October this year.

Group Lead of Cricket Legends of Tanzania, Kanu Rathod, who returned home in Birmingham, UK safely after attending the Dar Reunion of a friend’s event in Toronto recently said preparation is on top gear for the tour.

Dinesh Vaishnav senior administrator of the Reunion Group told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday that Rathod sees tremendous success of the Toronto event, in that old friends and families met who walked over their memorable lives then, in Dar es Salaam.

Rathod, in his report also said that he made the Toronto gathering aware of the Reunion of Cricket Legends of Tanzania to be held in in October.

Team Tanzania, led by Legendary Bashir Tejani, has focused on a tour to the historical town of Bagamoyo over and above participation in the PBPS Cricket Festival and a full day with the past and current players and leaders of the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) according to Vaishav.

Rathod added that the Canada Reunion event gave the huge opportunity to lure more participation at the Dar es Salaam/Bagamoyo event in October.

As part of Tanzania’s tourism boost, organisers have also extended invitations to the selected living cricket Legends from Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Zambia.

However, Rathod has also given full credit to the entire membership for the support and welcome all at the coming event.

“During our successful first ever 2022 Reunion event we deliberated on possible expansion of group activities.

“This resolve included creating our website carrying group… national and international news with a focus on cricket and cricketers in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

He noted that also planned to create an outreach programme that lures young persons – males and females to join the group to carry forward the legacy of membership which agreed to be together for the love of the game
