DAR ES SALAAM: THE forthcoming Cricket Legend Reunion Tanzania festival preparation gathers storm as organisers from oversees and Dar es Salaam gear up for the memorable event.
The festival brings together cricket legends living abroad and those living in the country. It is set to be held in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo from the 25th to the 27th of October this year.
The Group Management headed by England-based cricket Legend Kanu Rathod has recently resolved to give the East African flair to the Reunion event.
As part of the tour promotion, Rathod met Legends living abroad in Toronto, Canada over the weekend at a get-together with all the cricket memories from Tanzania.
Kanu told the ‘Daily News’ that preparation for the tour is golf smooth and is grateful to meet Legends who among them were not yet joined the group but have joined.
“It has been a pleasure to meet some new ex-Tanzanian cricket players and the cricket supporters here in Toronto. These people were not aware of the current cricket teams now playing in Tanzania.
“With the help of Kishor Gajjar, Shabir Kaderbhai, Sanju Pandya and Zenudin Waliji has been very valuable, contributing towards awareness of cricket developed so rapidly in Tanzania in recent years under the past Chairman Premjibhai Pindoria and the current Chairman Balakrishan Sreekumar,” he said.
Rathod added that the two top Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) chairman works tirelessly for the betterment of the game.
Rathod also commended the Legends for accepting the calls and insisted they had a lovely little get-together with all the cricket memories from Tanzania. Remembering past and present players sharing all fun and jokes as Pandya said the countdown begins for the October 2024 Reunion tour.
He said Kaderbhai during his playing time took most of the wickets bowling googly with his charming face and turning his balls.
Tanzania organising team headed by Legend Bashir Tejani and Dinesh Vaishnav senior administrator of the Reunion have recently sent invitations to the selected living cricket Legends from Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Zambia.
Vaishnav was quoted as saying, “We decided to invite them with the idea of renewing acquaintances of old days and resurrecting the history of cricket in East Africa.”
