CRB calls for transparency in projects execution

TABORA: CHAIRPERSON of the Contractors Registration Board (CRB), Engineer Joseph Nyamhanga has urged contractors across the country to observe transparency in all projects they execute as per the country’s construction laws and guidelines.
Speaking during his visit at the East African Crude Oil Pipeline’s (EACOP) construction site recently in Tabora, Mr Nyamhanga underlined the need for all contractors in the country to embrace transparent which is part and parcel of accountability.
“CRB is responsible in ensuring all contractors perform their duties with transparency regarding the cost of the projects and placement of their company names at posters to enable quick identification on who execute the projects during inspection,” Eng Nyamhanga said.
The visit involved the CRB’s Board of Directors and management.
The EACOP is a pipeline that is being constructed to transport oil produced from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania.
The visit intended to familiarize CRB with the progress of EACOP project including understanding whether the project is being implemented by authorized contractors.
The project is supervised by the China based contractor namely the Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Company Limited and Salum Motor Transport Company Limited (SAMOTA), the latter is the local contractor.
Eng Nyamhanga said he was delighted to learn that the major project also engages local contractor in which they acquire new in skills and experience for future related projects in the country.

The EACOP stretches 1443 kilometres out of which 296 kilometres are located in Uganda and the remaining 1147 are in Tanzania.
The pipeline touches eight regions which are Kagera, Geita, Shinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Manyara and Tanga.
District wise, the project crosses in 24 districts, 134 wards and 180 villages.
