Court mediates labour dispute involving foreign worker
DAR ES SALAAM: THE High Court’s Labour Division has successfully mediated a dispute between Maendeleo Technologies Limited, a mining equipment rental firm led by a Russian national, and a Ukrainian employee, Mr Sergiy Lyeshchynskyy.
Judge in Charge, Dr Yose Mlyambina, presided over the mediation, which resulted in a 40,000 US dollars settlement, equivalent to over 100m/-, payable in two installments.
According to the Deed of Settlement, the company will pay USD 20,000 by June 30, 2025, and the remaining amount by July 31, 2025, as final resolution of the employee’s claim.
The company will also cover legal costs of 2,000 US dollars—five per cent of the total amount —and provide an air ticket for Mr Lyeshchynskyy’s return to Ukraine by July 31, 2025.
“In case of default, the Respondent shall have the right to enforce this settlement through court execution,” the order reads.

Earlier, the Labour Commissioner had issued a Compliance Order on April 16, 2025, directing Maendeleo Technologies to pay USD 96,000.
The company failed to comply, prompting the employee to file execution proceedings.
On June 5, 2025, the executing court issued a Garnishee Order Nisi against the company’s account at CRDB Bank.
The company then sought to contest the compliance order and lift the garnishee order.
However, during ongoing proceedings, both parties opted to settle the matter amicably and withdrew all pending applications as part of the final agreement.
