Coast region to improve children’s day care centres

COAST REGION: COAST Regional authorities are working to ensure all children’s day care centres meet required standards and are officially registered so as to improve child development initiatives.
Coast Regional Head of Community Development Department, Ms Grace Tete, said at a meeting in Kibaha that only 355 of the region’s 748 day care centres are registered.
“Child care centres are one of the very important areas which need our close supervision,” said Tete at a recent evaluation meeting for the National Multi-Sectoral Early Childhood Development Programmes (NMECDP) in Kibaha.
“We are going to hold meetings with the owners of these centres and take the necessary measures to ensure that the remaining 393 centres meet the criteria and get registered,” she said at the meeting jointly organised by the Regional Secretariat and Anjita Child Development Foundation.

Anjita Development Foundation Director, Ms Janet Malela, thanked the government for its support which, she said, enables the organisation to implement children’s projects in the area without obstacles.
“We are very grateful for the government’s support in implementing projects aimed at improving growth, rights, protection and security of our children in this region,” she said.
According to the 2022 census, the Coast Region has 503,267 children under the age of eight.
