Coast Region emphasises environmental protection

COAST REGION: THE government in Coast Region has pledged to support all stakeholders involved in environmental protection and conservation to help them achieve their goals for the benefit of the nation.

This commitment was made by Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge in a speech delivered on his behalf by Mr Msafiri Msafiri, from the Regional Secretariat’s Economy and Production Department, during the launch of an Environmentally Friendly Entrepreneurship project in Kibaha Town.

The project is being implemented by the local organization Maliasili na Mazingira (TMM).

Regional Commissioner Kunenge stressed that environmental issues affect everyone in the community, and the government is committed to supporting all stakeholders who are dedicated to addressing these concerns.

“The regional government is taking environmental matters very seriously.

We promise to work closely with your institution to ensure that both your objectives and ours are met, in order to protect the environment,” he emphasised.

Mr Shaaban Kiullah, Principal Conservator of the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) Eastern Zone, noted that the launch of this project would serve as a catalyst to motivate the public in environmental protection efforts.

He elaborated that the environmental sector plays a crucial role in various areas, including agriculture, beekeeping, tree planting and tourism—all of which significantly contribute to the economy.

The Chairperson of Maliasili na Mazingira (TMM), Ms Mwanawetu Hamisi, explained that one of the main objectives of the project is to educate entrepreneurs on creating new products from waste materials.
